Keys for Effective Use of Templates

When we need to follow a methodology, templates are very usefull, because they drive towards the completion of some activities, especially the Specifications gathering and Agreements Accountability at meeting minutes.  
But there are always inexperts/young consultants looking desperately for templates for implementing processes; and I must say something about it. They don’t exist. Or to be more exact, they don’t work. This also applies to the “out-of-the-box” products for processes. They underestimate the business’ specific intended purpose/goals.
People accomplishing process implementation with this view do a disservice to the professionals who do a great job implementing usefull and succesful processes in business organizations.
Imagine that an important publisher asks his most important writer to build a template for quickly writing more new books. Do you think this is possible?. I must say that it is not. Every customer, situation, and needs are different and processes must be built ad-hoc for that evironment. That’s the reason why all the international standards and frameworks only describe WHAT to do, but not HOW to acomplish it. 
Definitly, it is impossible to write general processes and workflows and then implement them. As someone said “all general rules are false, including this one”.
When do you think Templates should be used?
